What is Recreational Railroad Coalition?

Recreational Railroad Coalition Inc. (RRC) is a Mutual Benefit Corporation, 501) 7, organized to preserve America’s historic railroad corridors that would otherwise disintegrate into oblivion.

Railroads are a part of the original fabric of our communities. Many of these railroad corridors fall under the ownership of short line railroads. Some are ending up under the auspices of local governmental entities that are unsure of how to use this aged resource. RRC offers to retain or return a rail activity on these ribbons of history for their educational, historic and recreational value by operating antique, privately owned, track inspection “speeders” handcars, velocipedes and other human powered rail conveyances.

Weed strewn, garbage covered, rusted rail corridors are attractions to vandalism, theft and trespassers all of which constitute a liability to the ownership. Additionally, neighbors to the railroad assume a growing attitude concurrent with the time of unuse that the rails are no longer owned and operated and begin to think of the right-of-way as an extension of their own property lines. Confusion, conflicts and misunderstandings are avoided when the tracks host maintenance of way vehicles. The presence and movement of these vehicles confirm ownership of the tracks.

Public relations are enhanced and education is offered to students through demonstrations and Operation LifeSaver, the nations primary rail safety program.

The services of RRC are offered without cost to the ownership of the rails. Remuneration is represented by access to the rails for the purposes indicated.
